Front Porch Lights LYRICS

(Jacque Darragh)
FRONT PORCH LIGHTS
All my life I wanted to believe.
I never really could; I just tried to be good.
But now I can see so far, right past
the moon and all the stars
to where God lives, to where Love lives.
When you see stars at night,
you’ll know they’re just front porch lights
leading us home. God leaves the light on.

All my life so many good things happened.
I questioned, “Is this grace, or is faith a hiding place?
I’d look up; I wanted to say “Thank you!”
wondering “Who is this that I am talking to?”
But now I can see so far, right past
the moon and all the stars
to where God lives, to where Love lives.
And now I understand it was a nail-scarred hand
that welcomed me home; I’m finally home.
And when you see stars at night,
you’ll know they’re just front porch lights
leading us home. God leaves the light on.

One day soon, you’ll be coming home, too.
It happens to the best, and all of the rest.
You’ll look up,
and you’ll want to say “Thank you!”
And you’ll know it’s God you’re talking to.
Then you will see so far,
right past the moon and all the stars
to where God lives, to where Love lives.
Then you will understand
it is a nail-scarred hand
that welcomes us home, finally home.
All of the stars at night
are really just front porch lights
leading us home.
God leaves the light on.
God leaves the light on. God leaves the light on.
