Do you remember when you first heard the story
of an angel visit to a maiden fair?
Do you remember her sweet surrender:
“Here I am, let it be done to me just as You have said.”
It makes wise men wonder, makes the angels sing
of the One who Comes to set us free.

Do you remember when the starlight filled the heavens
and the angels were singing in the shepherds’ field?
Do you remember when the Glory of Heaven
became home for the homeless in a stable stall?
It makes wise men wonder, even shepherds sing
of the One who Comes to set us free.

Do you remember when you first felt his presence?
Did you know you’d been chosen to welcome God’s own son?
Do you remember when you first heard the whispers
of God’s voice within you, and you knew he’d come?
It makes wise men wonder, makes the angels sing
when we greet the One who sets us free.

Come to my heart, Lord Jesus, please do . . .
I have a manger in my heart for you!

Be still and listen. You can still hear the story.
though this story’s hidden where you’d least expect:
in the poor or the homeless,
in your neighbor, or a stranger,
in the ones who suffer from benign neglect.
It makes wise men wonder, makes the angels sing
when we meet the One who sets us free.

What can I offer, what can I bring?
Whom can I serve to serve the King of Kings?
